Royal Town of Caernarfon | North Wales.

‪@walkingwithbill‬ this week visits The Royal Town of Caernarfon. Dominated by its English built castle this town is today a stronghold for the Welsh language but once the Welsh were kept outside the town walls as they were built to protect the English settlers within. in 1969 the then Prince Charles was invested as Prince of Wales within the castle walls by his mother Queen Elizabeth 2nd. The title of Prince of Wales has been given to a non native first son of the English monarch since Edward the 1st placed his eldest son "Edward of Caernarfon", as the first Plantagenet Prince of Wales in 1301 after he took over the native Prince's lands in the 13th Century. This has always been a contentious subject amongst many in Wales.
