Bureau of Internal Revenue – Large Taxpayer Service Tax Campaign Kick-Off (Speech)

“Magbayad lang kayo ng tama,” said President Rodrigo Roa Duterte as he underscored the importance of tax collection in the further improvement of the country’s growth and progress during the kick-off ceremony of the Bureau of Internal Revenue’s (BIR) 2017 tax campaign.

With the cooperation of the Large Taxpayer Service (LTS) and the Department of Finance (DOF), the BIR’s tax collection campaign this year focuses on enhanced strategies and reform programs in achieving a committed tax collection goal. Bearing the theme, “Ako, Kaisa sa Pagbabago,” the objective of the forum is to reinforce compliance in the country’s tax collection system by telling Filipino taxpayers of their vital role in the reform process. By doing so, it can lead to more sustainable socio-economic programs of the government for the nation.

Based on the BIR’s data, tax collection at the start of 2017 grew incredibly well, with the collection growth rate soaring to 12.13% compared to 7.60% in 2016. Through the launching of the tax campaign, the BIR is targeting to attain its goal of collecting PhP1.829 trillion.

Moreover, the BIR would be adopting a strategic roadmap to help broaden the agency’s tax base and taxpayers’ segmentation.

Around 2000 guests were present during the event that included Mr. Lance Gokongwei (President and CEO of JG Summit), BIR Deputy Commissioner Nelson Valeroso, other government officials, BIR partners, and corporate taxpayers.
