Jesus calls to us to come to Him for rest. Not rest from the day's work, but rest from struggling to obtain a right relationship with God. The law was a heavy burden, especially the traditions of the Pharisees. In these verses Jesus establishes himself as the master, the lord of the law. The Sabbath is his to administer. He shows the Pharisees how they miss the point of the Sabbath, and now that he has come, the Sabbath is transformed into Him. He is the Sabbath. By resting in Jesus from the work of the law, man can truly find rest and peace with God.
