PERFORMANCE WITH MARTÍN SOTO CLIMÉNT: THE DANCE OF THE BLINDS | June 7, 2024

During the vernissage, Martín Soto Climént activated the blinds, which are part of his installation The Swan Swoons in the Still of the Swirl (Stills 1,2,3,4,5,6) (2010), in a 10 -minute performance with the title The Dance of the Blinds. The artist liberates everyday objects from their functional purpose. Instead, he presents us with a humorous and elegant choreography that is reminiscent of a dance with the blinds. Afterwards, the objects return to the form they took for the installation.

Soto Climént describes blinds in their original use as the eyelids of a house. Their opening and closing controls the connection between inside and outside, between the entry and exclusion of sunlight. With sensitivity and humour, the artist turns the blinds into symbols and transforms them into a poetic installation with minimal intervention. Soto Climente's works raise questions about the interpretation and reinterpretation of objects.
