HP ProLiant DL580 G7 - We will review the system and provide a nice overview of the memory. In this video, learn more about the memory and CPUs compatible with the HP ProLiant DL580 G7 server. This is a 4U beast. If you are familiar with the DL980 G7, then you are in good shape. This is basically the same. The DL980 G7 is double the size but they utilize the same processors and RAM as the DL580 G7.

On that note, let's go over some of the general basics of the DL580 G7. This 4U HP server runs on four processors. You have a couple of choices, but we recommend using E7s. You can use Intel 6500 or 7500 series CPUs. You can also use Intel E7-2800 or E7-4800 series. LGA1567 Socket. There are 64 DIMMs slots in total. Yes a whopping 64 DIMM Slots! Speed options for this ProLiant server are 1066MHz, 1333MHz and 1600MHz. Please do take note that 1600MHz modules will clock down to 1333MHz. Size options will depend on which CPUs you have. Intel 6500 or 7500 series support 2GB, 4GB, 8GB or 16GB. This is important. You will not be able to use 32GB modules. However, with E7 series, you can use all the same size plus you can use 32GB DIMMs. Older DDR2 or newer DDR4 memory are not supported by the DL580 G7. Must use DDR3. You also will not be able to use desktop RAM.

What type of memory is support by my HP ProLiant DL580 G7? There is 1 choice and only 1 choice for the HP DL580 G7 server: ECC Registered (RDIMMs). This is key. Load Reduced (LRDIMMs) are not supported by the ProLiant DL580 G7. Unfortunately, you can only use ECC Registered. As mentioned earlier, which Intel Processor you run will determine the max configuration for your DL580 G7. With E7 procs, the max config is 4TB (128 x 32GB) DDR3 PC3-12800R 1600MHz ECC Registered Server Memory. This is for E7-2800 or E7-4800 series CPUs. On the flip side, 6500 or 7500 processors have lower scalability and will top out at 2TB (128 x 16GB) DDR3 PC3-12800R 1600MHz ECC Registered Server Memory. E7's are the best option to maximize your RAM. Another common question. Are there any 64GB DDR3 DIMMs supported by the DL580 G7? Unfortunately, the answer is no. No manufacturer ever invented 64GB DDR3 ECC Registered so there are no 64GB DIMM options at all for the HP ProLiant DL580 G7 server.

There are 8 memory risers inside the memory drawer. Each riser is equipped with eight DIMM slots and has four memory channels. This means there are 2 DIMMs per memory channel, which is very important information. The ProLiant DL580 G7 will not be subject to the rank rule. You can use quad rank memory inside your DL580 G7 without issues.

In our video, we will show exactly how to gain access to the memory risers as well as demonstrate best techniques for installing & configuring the RAM. Generation 7 of HP ProLiant DL580 G7 has set a high bar by being the next-generation 4U 4-socket rack server.

Utilizing four Intel Xeon E7-4800 Series Processors and up to 1333MHz DDR3 memory, HP ProLiant DL580 G7 servers will give end users a solid performing gaming server or home lab server. This system is also great for running a corporate environment. This is a great fit for a small to medium businesses who need a powerful server on a budget.
