Young Prince Charles at School Sports Day (1957)

On 8 July 1957, Prince Charles took part in a sports day at Hill House School, where he had started in November 1956. Among the spectators were Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and Charles' little sister, Princess Anne. Harold Macmillan, the Conservative Prime Minister, had advised the Queen to send her eldest son to a civilian school and Charles’ attendance made him the first Royal heir to not be entirely home-schooled. Prince Charles left after only six months, having apparently found it difficult mixing with other pupils.
