Welcome, Suellies! I hope that you are all doing really well!

I eat Thai food fairly often (twice this past weekend). However, this evening, I felt like whipping it up myself at home... which brings to mind....

I recently had a conversation with some friends who highly recommended using one of those food delivery apps (Postmate, in this instance). They said that they would use it after a long day at work, order it as they were leaving work, and have the doorman hold onto the food for them until they arrived home. It sounds all well and good, but my husband and I were contemplating why we rarely get take out and delivery.

Our normal two options are to dine out or eat a home-cooked meal. Maybe we are old-fashioned, but if we are already at home, I usually feel okay with whipping something up. We were considering another perspective. Would getting delivery be the same price or even less expensive than dining in a restaurant? We typically need to get dressed up, pay valet (LA norms), then wait to be seated, politely nod as the waiter dramatically presents the day's specials with all his/her personality, wait for the food (occasionally it is served cold 😒), talk loudly over the music playing, wait for the check, tip 20%, and catch an Uber/ drive in traffic home.

There is a lot of pomp and circumstance involved with dining out. And I am starting to weigh my options if it is all really worth it. One of the plus sides of dining out is the lack of clean up at home. The plus side of eating at home/delivery is that I tend not to overeat and very easily can save my leftovers without bothering/ requesting someone to wrap it up. Therefore, ordering takeout with one of these free delivery apps might be worth it in the end. Please tell me what you do? Have you tried any of these takeout methods? Bon appétit!
