Samurai — How to Play 🎲 and Why It's a Gem 💎

Samurai! Play numbered tiles on the board to win the favour of three political factions in old Japan. At the end, each faction will nominate one of the players; if you don't get a nomination, you can't win! But of each faction's nominees, the player who gained the most support in the OTHER two factions will be the winner. Designed by Reiner Knizia and published originally by Hans im Glück in the late '90s, it is greatly respected as a classic.

Previously I've limited my focus to lesser-known older gems. But more and more, I want to celebrate games published in the "Golden Age" of German board games, from the early '90s to the mid '00s. Samurai is a well-respected game that will still be played decades from now. While it's famous in the hobby, it's not well-known outside the hobby, and that's a shame, as it's probably one of the greatest games of all time.
