関東大震災発生から6年半を経て、東京の震災復興を祝う天皇の巡幸（1930年3月24日）と帝都復興祭（3月26日）に合わせ、復興局が復興事業の全貌とその成果を広めるために製作した長篇記録映画。現存するフィルムでは、震災直後の状況、統計や復興事業の紹介、復興後の都市生活を描いた4編に、巡幸と式典を写した2編が繋ぎこまれた形で残されている。

「関東大震災映像デジタルアーカイブ」では、2023年9月1日の震災発生100年に向けて、国立映画アーカイブが所蔵する約20作品の震災関連映画を、随時アップしてまいります。いま必要とされる災害記録としての関東大震災の記録映像から、より多くの情報を読み取っていただくガイドとして、ぜひ「関東大震災映像デジタルアーカイブ」をお訪ねください。
