Kazakhstan, Astana - Walking from the Military Historical Museum to the Karaotkel Cemetery

Описание к видео Kazakhstan, Astana - Walking from the Military Historical Museum to the Karaotkel Cemetery

We are back in Astana! Previously we covered the grounds of the Military Historical Museum of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan (   • Kazakhstan, Astana - Walking around t...  ). Today we are going to walk from the said museum to the Karaotkel Cemetery, exploring some backyards along the way.

0:00 - Start of the walk. We are standing in front of the Military Historical Museum. Qaraötkel Bridge can be seen in the distance (check this walk to get a closer look:    • Kazakhstan, Astana - Walking from the...  ). Google Maps are not consistent in their transliteration. They call the cemetery Karaotkel, but when it comes to the bridge they use Qaraötkel. Things like that happen a lot, so let's not waste any more time and move out! We will head east alongside the Aleksandr Barayev St.
0:39 - Yep, we are going to use this overpass! But a little bit later. For now let's continue moving forward.
2:04 - A statue of doves.
2:52 - Closer look at the doves statues. Now we can double back and use that overpass.
4:22 - There is an elevator there, but I decided to use the stairs. And regretted it almost immediately, because the staircase was full of reflective surfaces. I try to avoid filming myself, because it can ruin a viewer's immersion, so for me it was a staircase from hell.
6:04 - Beautiful views from the overpass.
6:41 - "Don't trust gods" is written on the column to the left.
7:33 - On the way down I decided to use the an elevator.
7:39 - But it was out of service.
7:54 - So, one more reflective staircase from hell.
9:24 - In many cultures there is a proverb meaning something akin to "The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world". Well, this statue is marked with an "upgraded" version. This is the exact quote (because an attempt at English translation is also carved here): "A woman who rocking the cradle with one hand, and the whole world with the other, blooming only in the hands of her man find peace". Now, that's scary, and I am not even talking about the grammar.
10:03 - Now is the time to explore some backyards.
11:10 - Statues of camels.
12:12 - At this point it became absolutely clear, that the sun is going to ruin this video.
12:48 - We've already encountered pipes, small bridges over pipes and those fenced areas for drying clothes. But not in the same shot!
13:41 - This flickering is outrageous. Sorry!
14:29 - Some more statues of camels.
14:50 - Yep, I went there only for the camels. Yep, you had to struggle through all those sun flares only for a bunch of camels statues. Seemed like a good idea at the time.
16:17 - Another little bridge over the pipes.
17:29 - Look at all these decorations! It's like a competition between the residents.
17:37 - The wolf from the Soviet cartoon seems to be a recurring theme (   • Kazakhstan, Astana - Walking around a...  ).
17:43 - Baby Groot!
17:57 - Old man Groot!
18:25 - Venus de Milo!
20:26 - The locals don't believe in copyrights.
22:48 - A mural. This one was done by Yaroslav Tarasov and Nurlybek Boribaev (CANBRUSH STUDIO:   / canbrush_studio  .
24:00 - We are emerging from the backyards. It's Aleksandr Barayev St again.
24:29 - Memorial board dedicated to agronomist Aleksandr Barayev (the street is named after him as well).
24:54 - Let's continue our journey alongside the Aleksandr Barayev St.
25:39 - Some nice shrubbery.
26:32 - More shrubbery.
27:27 - Another mural. We already encountered this one on a previous walk:    • Kazakhstan, Astana - Walking down Sho...  .
28:51 - Somewhere here Aleksandr Barayev St changes its name and turns into Aleksandr Kravtsov St.
29:46 - We are going to cross this little park and dive into the backyards again for a few minutes.
32:20 - Stele of the World. At least, this is how the local map calls it. And it has a globe on its top accordingly. But it also has a name of microdistrict on it, so maybe it's a Stele of Zhastar Microdistrict really.
32:49 - Curious drawn number on the side of the building. Maybe there was a pool club here or something.

The description continues in the first comment.
