Mountain Biking Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation | Cleveland Metroparks | Cuyahoga Heights, OH

The 2.5 mile intermediate and 1/2 mile beginner mountain bike loops at Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation (OECR) make up for its short distance by packing in lots of brief climbs & adrenaline-inducing descents, twisty turns, and several rock & root sections.

The trail is located in Cuyahoga Heights, OH, just south of Cleveland. Despite the occasional landmark that stand as a reminder to riders that they're in an urban location, the trail generally induces a countryside vibe.

The intermediate loop begins in a flat, wooded section before quickly entering an open field climb up to a wooded hillside.. The duration of the intermediate trail provides a roller-coaster ride up and down the hillside until eventually reaching the bottom, dumping riders off to the beginner loop. Be aware that there are several off-camber sections on the hillside.

The beginner loop is in a wooded section, with gentle changes in elevation, and takes riders back to the trailhead.

For those looking to add miles to their ride, the trail can easily be ridden several times through, or one could head over to the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath for some gravel grinding.

Since the Ohio & Erie Canal trails are mostly on a hillside near two flowing bodies of water (the O&E Canal & Cuyahoga River), it drains well and tends to dry quickly. So, unlike many of the other trails in the Northeast Ohio area, Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation rarely closes due to rainy weather.
