Understanding The Numbers is my video series where I help you to understand the numbers, data and jargon associated with training.

This episode is all about RPE, or Rate of Perceived Exertion. It is basically a scale from 1 to 10 that represents how hard you FEEL you are working. No hard data, just your perception of effort.

In experienced athletes, RPE is very effective, and with practice it can be effective for you in your training too. The added benefit is that it is FREE! No expensive watches, no updates, no spreadsheets or apps, just training.
