CORNDOGS! 🇺🇸😋

This makes about 10-12 standard or around 16 small-medium sized Corndogs

Recipe

Coat the wieners with cornstarch/cornflour to begin with. This is not totally necessary although it will ensure that the batter sticks

120g/ 1 cup of plain flour
120g/ 1 1/4 cup of fine cornmeal
2 1/2 tsp of baking powder
Pinch of salt
1 1/2 tbsp of white sugar
250ml/1 1/4 cup of Buttermilk
1 large egg
1 tbsp of vegetable or sunflower oil

If you can’t get buttermilk you can also just use regular milk or add 1 1/2 tbsp of lemon juice or vinegar to regular milk. You could also use natural or Greek yoghurt and thin it out with some regular milk. These are really nice with a bit of a tang to them.

If you can’t get fine cornmeal you could try blending ground cornmeal or polenta flour in a blender

Fry at 180C for about 5 minutes until golden brown. Enjoy with mustard, ketchup or whatever you like 😋
