Kobe Bryant’s 2006-07 season was undeniably one of his best. Included were some of his greatest single-game performances along with arguably the hottest short term stretch of his career. March of 2007 was Kobe’s 3rd and final full calendar month averaging 40+ ppg. He scored 50+ in 5 games, a monthly total matched by only two other players in league history (Chamberlain, Baylor). With 4 of 5 coming consecutively, only Chamberlain holds a higher mark for most 50+ in a row.

Kobe shot 54% overall, 52% from three and 93% from the line during the 4 straight, scoring 65 on Portland, 50 against the Timberwolves, 60 in Memphis and 50 in New Orleans. March 25th at Staples presented him with a chance to extend the streak to 5. At this point, Kobe’s standard for scoring was higher than it had ever been. The bar had been raised to a level that made 43 points seem somewhat like a disappointment.

Considering that the bulk of Kobe’s looks in this one were jump-shots, 15 for 33 is a very respectable ratio. I felt it was more than necessary to include all field goal attempts. Doing so paints the pursuit, the in-game chase of what would have been an absolutely remarkable and almost unthinkable feat. Finishing 7 points short, he came within just a few jumpers and some free throws of reaching 50. Although the impressive individual performance, logging another team victory mattered most to the man.

*2 misses are not included - 1 strip marked as an fga, and 1 3rd qtr two-point jumper cut out of the original recording; this was Kobe’s only game of 2006-07 with 0 assists.
