Today's guest is Johns Hopkins-trained psychiatrist, therapist, neuroscientist, and public speaker, Dr. Diane Henncay Powell.

Much of Dr. Powell’s work is rooted in investigating parapsychological phenomena such as telepathy, clairvoyance and out-of-body experiences. Her key research focuses on autistic savants and children reported to be telepathic or precognitive by their caregivers.

Dr. Powel explores the possibility of consciousness being a primary factor preceding biology. This is a complete reversal of the way our current, materialistic model relates consciousness with the brain. Diane is part of a growing group of well-established scientists who advocate for a new, expanded scientific model that can account for the many paranormal phenomena increasingly being documented by mainstream researchers.

Dr. Powell is also the author of two books: The ESP Enigma: The Scientific Case for Psychic Phenomena, and Seriously Strange: Thinking Anew about Psychical Experiences.

In our conversation, Dr. Powel and I discuss some of the more striking examples of ESP phenomena she’s come across. We also look at alternative ideas about how consciousness and our bodies are related and we consider how some of the ancient civilizations might have had a deeper understanding of consciousness than we might think.
