Welcome, or welcome back, to Wanderlust Walks! Thank you for being here.

Today we are exploring the quaint Yorkshire village, Heptonstall. Situated in the Calder Valley, overlooking the nearby town of Hebden Bridge, Heptonstall's cobbled lanes have remained unchanged for about 200 years. Popular with walkers, the village is one of Yorkshire's hidden gems. Heptonstall's churchyard contains two separate churches -- the present church, St Thomas the Apostle, as well as the ruins of St Thomas a Becket (founded in the 13th century) which was destroyed in a great storm in 1847. Within the graveyard, which apparently contains the remains of over 100,000 people, lies the famous poet Sylvia Plath -- we visit her grave to pay respects in this video, as many other people have (look out for the pens and pencils). Prior to the end of the 18th century, Heptonstall thrived in the woollen trade -- however, when it was determined that the water and steam powered mills were where the industry was better located, it moved onto other nearby places with closer proximity to the River Calder, such as Hebden Bridge. This village was so peaceful and simply lovely to walk around, and we couldn't wait to share it with you!
