Yojiro Imasaka | Artist residency at Spazio Berlendis

From 5 to 21 December 2023, Yojiro Imasaka was the guest of an artist residency at Spazio Berlendis. The artist immersed himself in the lagoon landscape and focused on exploring the unspoilt nature near the city of Venice. The landscapes that caught his eye were immortalised using a large format camera and the dry plate technique, a method made famous at the end of the 19th century that brought the artist into contact with the temporality of the place. A distinctive feature of Yojiro Imasaka's works is his ability to convey a particular sense of time: through the shots, the viewer will be transported to a bygone era and at the same time to a possible future setting in Venice. All the photographs, taken on glass plates, were developed manually in a portable darkroom, specially set up at Spazio Berlendis.
