Combining Vagus Nerve Stimulation + Behavioral Therapy for Autism - Crystal Engineer, Synchrony 2023

People with autism often have auditory processing disorders, where the brain is not able to make sense of what it hears. Improving the ability of neurons to adapt their response to sound is one of the most promising avenues for improving communication in autism. Evidence from animal studies suggests that precisely timed vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) paired with sound presentation can drive robust #neuroplasticity in auditory networks and enhance the benefits of auditory therapy.

In this talk Crystal Engineer, PhD, Assistant Professor of Neuroscience at the University of Texas, Dallas, outlines their most recent findings and suggest future directions in using VNS to improve communication in autism and related brain disorders.
