Right Way Fire

The Australian landscape and ecosystems have been shaped by traditional fire management over thousands of years.
Increasingly large wildfires fuelled by climate change are contributing to significant biodiversity loss in the desert.

The IDA empowers Indigenous rangers to implement right-way fire on rangers’ Country. This is culturally informed fire management which results in outcomes that reflect traditional practice.

The IDA enables Indigenous rangers to collaborate on the largest Indigenous-led, landscape-scale, fire management program in the world.

Right-way fire is about what is left behind. The biodiversity, cultural heritage and communities of the desert are protected from destructive wildfires.
