MEDICAL PROVIDER EDUCATION:

On August 25, 2020, Dr. Brayden Yellman addressed a group of adult and pediatric psychiatrist with the primary intention of supplementing their medical knowledge of ME/CFS as it relates to their specific medical practices.

The purpose of the lecture was to acknowledge that many who suffer from ME/CFS are often mistakenly diagnosed with primary psychiatric conditions, often in the complete absence of any recognition of an underlying severe multi-system illness.

The lecture reviews a case presentation of a patient whom, by official psychiatric diagnostic standards put forth by the DSM V, appears to have multiple primary psychiatric illnesses.

The audience of providers is then challenged to question the utility and weaknesses of the existing diagnostic criteria for these psychiatric illnesses and is given a set of diagnostic tools to assist them in recognizing that the patient in this case presentation is actually suffering from prominent symptoms of ME/CFS.
