An AbundantLife in a Rural Bulgarian Village

June is a very special month in our Bulgarian village. Not just the dark blue skies and endless sunshine but the abundance of fruit and flowers. The lavender is at the height of its scent, the sunflowers are raising their golden heads, and the Linden trees fill the humid air with their heavy perfume. It is so beautiful to be enveloped in their aroma as we stroll around our village, and to fall asleep at night with the scent wafting in through the open window.

It is too hot to work in the middle of the day so we arise early to undertake gardening tasks and to walk our five dogs. 5 am is a circus of activity in our village – the sounds of the wood cutting equipment, the refuse collection lorry, people calling to each other in the street.

We are guided in our tasks by the seasons. At the moment, The plums are ripe and so I buy sugar and make jam😊

We have also been inspired this year to undertake some major work on our very large and very overgrown garden. For those of you watched my video    • WhereCan You  Buy  a House  for Under...  

you will know that we have owned this house for a number of years but the garden has been the last job to undertake. We are in the process of building a swimming pool and using the soil to make some raised beds to grow organic vegetables. Our fruit of course is also organic.

And before leaving I wanted to show you all some of the beautiful buildings and cobbled streets of our nearby mediaeval town. We like to walk here when it’s hot in the shady streets and to peruse the local crafts, beautiful pottery, and interesting antique finds.
