Living In A Tent With Three Dogs in Alaska | Breaking ground on our homestead

Join us for the first day of life on our off grid property. We are living in a tent with our three dogs while we build our homestead.

We bought property sight unseen on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. The property has a “road” to it but it is a muddy mess! We would call it more of a trail. Making it out to the property without the use of off road vehicles has been challenging. We can only bring to the property things that we can carry on our backs or in our hands.

We had to cut a trail through a thicket of alders that had been hidden under the snow on our first walk through. That means we had atleast six feet of snow that we were walking on when we first saw the land! Battling old fallen trees from past storms and fires, we trekked up the property in the search for some dry ground we could put our tent on.

We only found one dry area which was brought to Sam’s attention by a grouse that flew right into her!We have named this grouse, Chunky, as he is the largest grouse we have ever seen.

Lots of twists, turns, and surprises already and we’ve only just started!
