This video presents the common glassware encountered in an organic chemistry laboratory. Glassware used to contain solutions and reactions include beakers, Erlenmeyer flasks, and round-bottom flasks. Filtrations and transfers use funnels, filter paper, and receiver flasks, such as side-arm flasks or filter flasks. Different types of funnels include Buchner funnels, powder funnels, and long-stem funnels. Solutions are measured most commonly with graduated cylinders. Solids are measured by mass on a balance. Ring stands and clamps provide a scaffolding to hold glassware securely as it is being used. Stirring hot plates provide a means for heating and stirring reactions over time. Other glassware, which is somewhat less common, includes various condensers and distillation heads.
