Plane Spotting Reykjavik Keflavik Airport 4-2-2024 | Blizzards, Poseidon & Snow

Where do I start with this one then? Let's say this is a very interesting compilation! My plane spotting experience in Iceland was certainly one to remember! Keflavik Airport covers quite a large amount of ground and it is not easy to get close to the runways. However, we found a place where a couple of interesting planes were parked up. Two Boeing 737 MAX 8's were here on their way to new owners. The Shenzhen Airlines bird already has its new regi VT-BXS on the fuselage. Shenzhen didn't take this MAX despite it was already painted. Now VT-BXS is flying for Air India Express in their new colours. The Akasa Air MAX was produced for Donghai Airlines but never delivered. VT-YBA is now active for Akasa Air. Now, while trying to make shots of these aircraft and a couple of Boeing P-8 Poseidon's from the US Navy, and one from the Royal Navy, the weather was quite extreme at times! Blizzard after blizzard came through, with 60 knots winds visibility reduced to mere meters. In mere seconds I got covered in snow! You can see and hear it in the video! Also note the poor guy at the nosegear of the Akasa! He and his collegues were trying to make sure the aircraft didn't move about in the strong winds. The weather sometimes changed very quickly from bright sun to full on blizzard! But in the sunny spells I could luckily spot some stuff, like an Icelandair Cargo Boeing 767-300 Freighter, some Icelandair B757's, a lot of their B737 MAX's, a lot of PLAY A320neo's, an Air Greenland Bombardier Dash 8 200 and some lucky shots of US NAVY Boeing P-8 Poseidons taking off. I also took a look at a preserved US Air Force F-4 Phantom and a crashed DC-3. Another fun catch was a Citation from the US Army and a Sikorsky Seahawk from the Danish Air Force. There was another Shenzhen Airlines liveries 737 MAX which came in at the end of the day. All in all, at times it is very challenging to spot in Iceland. But sometimes the results are very cool and unique. I had a great time here and even saw the beautiful northern lights aurora! And that in temperatures of -18 degrees! Epic! Enjoy the video!

This trip I was accompanied by my good friend Ryan. Check out his Flickr page for beautiful planespotting pictures and more!
