The 1954 Rugby League Lions arrived in Australia in a confident mood after regaining the Ashes in a 2-1 series win in England in 1952/53. (This was the first team to fly across the world rather than sail)
The Australian team was also confident of winning on home soil, led by captain Clive Churchill and Vice Captain Duncan Hall.
Both teams were chock full of future 'Hall of Famers' and the series lived up to expectations.
Australia won the First Test in Sydney , GB won the Second Test in Brisbane so the Third test would decide,The Ashes.
Sadly, the lead up to the game was marred by a brutal tour match between the Tourists and NSW. The match was abandoned by the referee due to the wild brawling and there were some concerns that the Third Test would be a similar affair. Thankfully, the game was played in good spirit with none of the animosity carrying over from the NSW game.
