How to install a DR650 countershaft seal retainer

Dino’s Tinker Shed, S1-Ep24. DR650 output seal retainer bracket installation

In this episode I will show everyone what is involved to install a factory Suzuki seal retainer on a DR650 dual sport motorcycle. The DR650 has a known issue with the output seal “popping out” and draining the engine oil all over the ground right in front of the rear tire. This can lead to you being stranded at best and often leading to engine damage if not noticed right away. In 2014 Suzuki started to fit this small metal retainer to stop this from happening (In the video I say 2012 but this is incorrect) and it is an easy upgrade to DR650s from 1996 to 2013 taking only a few minutes to install.
