Tu Hieu Pagoda, the ancient temple symbolizing filial piety
Tu Hieu Pagoda is located in Thuy Xuan Ward, City. Hue (Thua Thien - Hue province). Nestled behind a large pine forest, this is a temple associated with the story of a son's filial piety to his old mother and is the only temple that is currently the resting place of eunuchs during the dynasty. Nguyen.
Tu Hieu Pagoda was originally just a Thao Am with the name of Am An Duong founded by Patriarch Nhat Dinh. He was a former monk of Giac Hoang Pagoda in the palace, then returned to the forest to raise his elderly mother and practice pure here.
Legend has it that because the old mother was seriously ill, she had to foster fish meat, so every day the monk had to cross the road more than 5km with a stick to find fresh fish to cook porridge for his mother. The world saw that, so he talked about being a monk, but eating salty food, he still ignored his ears to dedicate himself to taking care of his mother.
The rumor reached the ears of King Tu Duc, the king asked a new investigator or a Zen master to cook porridge for his sick mother, but he was still a vegetarian every day, a spiritual practice. When the king heard that, he was touched by the filial piety of the Zen master in the deep mountains of the same valley. Later, in 1848, a year after the death of Zen master Nhat Dinh, perhaps, moved by the old monk's virtue, the construction and expansion of Thao Am into Tu Hieu pagoda was always appreciated by the court and officials. eunuchs and Buddhists are interested in helping. When the pagoda was completed, King Tu Duc remembered the old story and named the pagoda "Tu Hieu Tu".
On the stele at the temple now also clearly states: "From the Buddha's great virtue, if not, what would he use to save the four sentient beings to help thousands of people; Hieu is the beginning of the Buddha's conduct, if not, how can we gain knowledge of the mysterious realm that covers heaven and earth? Meaning Tu is to teach people the way to be a father and Hieu to teach people the way to be a son. The temple has since gone deep into people's hearts, not with its rich history or magnificent works, but gently with its long poem of filial piety and salvation.
With a touching story, Tu Hieu Pagoda has become a symbol of a place of filial piety meditation for many centuries. It is not known when the temple has become a symbol of the filial piety of children to their parents. That has penetrated deeply into the cultural life of the people here as a beauty.
Every time Vu Lan returns, Buddhists come to the temple to do the ceremony and wear pink or white flowers to show their filial piety. Few people know that this is the place where Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh abbots, he is the one who laid the foundation for the birth of the custom of "rose laced" which has become a distinct cultural feature of the Vietnamese people. Those meanings also come from this temple named "Tu Hieu".
