Phalaenopsis Sweet Memory 'Liodoro' 2024.05.15

A short video of my Phalaenopsis Sweet Memory 'Liodoro'. Well known for its wonderful fragrance, this is a cross between Phal. Deventeriana 'Treva' and Phal. bellina. Many websites will say that it is a violacea hybrid because at the time this cross was registered with the RHS, Phal. bellina was still called violacea.

The species ancestors for this hybrid are:
Phal bellina 50% (violacea v. Borneo, before 1995)
Phal amabilis 25%
Phal amboinensis 25%

I have had this plant for many years, it's very large, potted in a 7" mesh pot in large sized Kiwi bark. It's an extraordinarily floriferous orchid, a sequential bloomer that is in bloom on many spikes almost all year round for me.

This year I have decided to pollinate it to make a 'self'. In the video, you can see that one of the flowers is green. That is the flower that was pollinated and it is now developing the seed pod. It will take about six months to mature. Once it's ready, I'll send it to a lab to make more of this beautiful orchid.

Thanks for viewing!
