The SHOCKING Story Of Anne Boleyn's Heart

Описание к видео The SHOCKING Story Of Anne Boleyn's Heart

One of the most shocking executions of the Tudor period was when Anne Boleyn was executed inside the walls of the Tower of London. Henry VIII sentenced to death his second wife, and Anne was accused of treason and adultery with 5 other men who were later also killed. Her head was taken clean off by a French executioner known as the 'Sword of Calais,' who performed the bloody job with a sword rather than an axe. Anne was then buried inside the Chapel of St Peter ad Vincula at the Tower of London, but after her death Henry VIII tried to erase his second wife from history. Paintings were seized and whitewashed but many rumours emerged about Anne Boleyn also.

One of the rumours centres around the fact her heart may have been removed following her death and was then taken out of the Tower of London. In a small village in Suffolk, a legend exists that within the Church of St Mary's in Erwarton, that Anne Boleyn's heart was buried inside of the Church. A small heart shaped lead box was discovered under the organ, and this helped people to think that the legend was true. But some historians do doubt the authenticity of this as its unlikely that Anne Boleyn's heart was taken out of the Tower of London, as Henry VIII would never have allowed this. But Erwarton was a place where Anne spent a lot of her childhood, and where she was in particular very happy.
