On the chilly evening of February 13, everything appeared normal in Rohini’s Vijay Vihar area. However, near Lal Quarter on Shamshan Ghat Road, a routine patrol by the police was about to uncover a major revelation. The entire operation was part of Rohini District Police’s ongoing “Operation Parakram,” aimed at curbing rising crimes in the area.
The team from Vijay Vihar Police Station—Head Constables Vikas and Om Prakash, along with Constables Rinku and Ravikant—were conducting regular patrolling. In recent weeks, incidents of snatching, robbery, and vehicle theft had increased, creating anxiety among residents. Acting on the directions of senior officers, the police had intensified surveillance and were closely monitoring every suspicious movement.
During the patrol, the team noticed a young man riding a motorcycle at high speed on the wrong side of the road. While many might have dismissed it as a mere traffic violation, the alert police team did not take it lightly. They immediately signaled him to stop. The rider appeared nervous. When questioned, his answers were vague and inconsistent.
The police asked him to produce the motorcycle’s documents, but he failed to provide any valid papers. Sensing something suspicious, the team quickly checked the vehicle’s registration details in the system. The records revealed that the motorcycle had been reported stolen from the Begumpur police station area. What initially seemed like a routine traffic check had now turned into the exposure of a serious crime.
The accused was identified as Varun Kumar Jha (25), a resident of Budh Vihar Phase-2. He was immediately taken into custody. However, the story did not end there. During sustained interrogation and technical investigation, Varun disclosed information about another stolen motorcycle. Acting on his lead, the police recovered a second bike, which had been stolen from the Dwarka North police station area. The recovered vehicles included a Hero Splendor and a TVS Apache.
Further investigation revealed that Varun was not a first-time offender. He had previously been arrested under the Arms Act in serious cases. The police are now probing whether he intended to use these stolen motorcycles for committing other crimes in the future.
This entire episode once again highlights the critical importance of responsible patrolling and vigilant checking. Had the police ignored the young man riding on the wrong side, these stolen vehicles might have been used in a major criminal act. A simple yet attentive intervention prevented potential future crimes.
