built by Harrison and Harrison of Durham in 1937, with four manuals and 84 speaking stops. it was used for the first time for the coronation of King George vI. pipework from the previous 5 manual Hill organ was revocied and incoporated in the new scheme. the organ was expanded in 1982 and again in 1987 making it now a five manual 94 stop organ. the cases were by Pearson and reinstated in 1959, they were orginally built for the Hill organ in 1895.
