SOPHIE CALLE - Blind - France: Actes Sud, 2011.

Com Blind, a artista conceitual francesa Sophie Calle (nascida em 1953) revisita três obras anteriores construídas em torno da ideia de cegueira. Em “Les Aveugles” (“O Cego”), criado em 1986, ela questionou os cegos sobre sua representação da beleza; em 1991, em "La Couleur Aveugle" ("Blind Color"), ela perguntou aos cegos sobre sua imaginação de percepção e comparou suas descrições às reflexões dos artistas sobre o monocromático; “La Dernière Image” (“A Última Imagem”), produzida em 2010 em Istambul, envolvia questionar pessoas que perderam a visão na última imagem de que conseguiam se lembrar. Ao estabelecer uma dialética entre os depoimentos de várias gerações de cegos e as fotografias de Calle a partir desses relatos, a artista oferece ao leitor uma reflexão sobre a ausência, sobre a perda de um sentido e a compensação de outro e sobre a noção do visível e do invisível.

With Blind, French conceptual artist Sophie Calle (born 1953) revisits three earlier works constructed around the idea of blindness. In “Les Aveugles” (“The Blind”), created in 1986, she questioned blind people on their representation of beauty; in 1991, in “La Couleur Aveugle” (“Blind Color”), she asked blind people about their imagination of perception and compared their descriptions to artists’ musings on the monochrome; “La Dernière Image” (“The Last Image”), produced in 2010 in Istanbul, involved questioning people who had lost their sight on the last image they could remember. By establishing a dialectic between the testimonies of several generations of blind people and Calle’s photographs based on these accounts, the artist offers readers a reflection on absence, on the loss of one sense and the compensation of another and on the notion of the visible and the invisible.
