Using Embroidery and 2-Step Heat Transfer Printing to Remake a Sweater

Embroidery and heat transfer printing are key in this recreation of trendy mixed-media apparel. In the second episode of our 'deconstructed' series, we’ll show you how to reproduce this smiley sweater. We’ll walk you through every step of this process, from finding a similar garment online to determining which stitch type and printing method to use to recreate the look and feel of the original sweater. We begin this “deconstructed” episode by introducing the mixed-media sweater that we are going to recreate. After studying the garment, we walk you through how to decide which decorating methods to use and collect the needed supplies. After finding a similar garment to the original, we then duplicate the designs using our Chroma digitizing software and VividRIP printing software.

After receiving our duplicate garment has arrived and digitizing our designs, we show you how we embroidered our designs on both the sleeve and front of the sweater. We’ll demonstrate how you can use our 8-in-1 hooping device to embroider on difficult-to-hoop items and how to achieve the perfect placement of the designs. We’ll also give you an up-close look at our ALL-NEW 10S touchscreen panel.

Once we are finished with the embroidery portion, we move on to our Luminaris 200 White Toner Transfer Printer. We’ll show you how to upload and print the designs, marry the transfers and adhesive sheets, and press the designs using our Ricoma Auto Open 16” x 20” Flat Heat Press. Once the 2-step heat transfer designs are applied, we reveal the final product and compare it side by side to the original sweater.
