The third agricultural revolution demonstrated the power of innovation communities, where global collaboration increased food production and averted famines. As we approach the fourth agricultural revolution, we must harness advanced technologies like AI, robotics, and biotechnology to further transform agriculture. Artificial intelligence will enable farmers to make thousands of precise decisions per field, optimizing resource use and improving food quality. To achieve this, we need innovation communities driven by the 4Cs: Collaboration, Collision, Competition, and Convening. Dr. William Aderholdt is the Executive Director of Grand Farm, an organization leading innovation in agriculture. He joined as its first hire in 2019, helping establish its strategic vision and programs. Grand Farm has been involved in major federal economic resiliency projects, and is based on a 600-acre Innovation Campus in Casselton, ND, with teams in Georgia and Montana. William is passionate about how innovation is driven by collaboration and competition. He holds a PhD, a Master’s in Education, and a B.S. in Cell Biology and Neuroscience from Montana State University. He lives in Fargo, ND, with his wife, Lana, and their two children. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
