Train Cab Ride NL / Cross Country / Amsterdam - Almere - Leeuwarden / ICM Intercity / October 2021

Hi everyone! It's been two weeks since the last video. Time for a new one. This time a extra long video. Due to construction works between Amersfoort and Zwolle trains were diverted. Creating a direct intercity between Amsterdam Central Station and Leeuwarden. I got to drive this train last weekend. I hope you enjoy the ride!

0:00 Amsterdam Centraal
We start the ride at Amsterdam Central Station. We had just arrived with this train coming from shunting yard Watergraafsmeer. After that I split up the train and now we take three carriages of ICM with us to Leeuwarden for an early Sunday morning ride.

4:01 Dijksgracht
As you can see the Dijksgracht has changed a lot since the last video that took us past there. All trains have been taken away and the tracks have been demolished to make room for new tracks in the near future. This to make trains in Amsterdam faster and more efficient.

6:02 Amsterdam Muiderpoort + Watergraafsmeer
After passing Muiderpoort you can see the shunting yard Watergraafsmeer on the left. This is where I took the train for its first ride to Amsterdam Central Station this morning. Did not record that because there was no time to do so.

8:22 Diemen
After Diemen you can see the tracks coming from the backside of the Watergraafsmeer towards Diemen Zuid and also to Weesp. You can get to the Watergraafsmeer from three sides. In the early days you could also enter the Watergraafsmeer via Diemen.

Between Almere Poort and Muziekwijk I get in contact with the train manager to let him know we won't be stopping at Lelystad with this train today. This because it's diverted and the intercity to Groningen is right behind us. If we will make a stop at Lelystad the intercity to Groningen can't run in its path without delays. Also: passengers for Lelystad can easily change at Almere and we will wait for the Groningen train in Zwolle again.

Enjoy the look on a pretty much renewed station Zwolle. Also the bus bridge is now fully in use since the last time I recorded a video here! Great looking infrastucture.

1:13:43 Herfte Aansluiting (renewed tracks)
As you all might know Zwolle has had many construction works in the past few years. And now it's finally time to enjoy that. The new situation in Herfte in ready for use since a while now and it looks awesome. This way trains don't need to cross each other's paths and more trains can run between Meppel and Zwolle.

Until here you could have seen some other video's on my channel. But after Meppel we keep left and go for the ride to Leeuwarden for the first time on my youtube. Hope you will enjoy the last 45 minutes of this video.

1:29:53 Smildervaartbrug
Multiple bridges without overhead wires between Meppel and Leeuwarden. At those bridges we only need to take power off the engines. While passing the bridges the trains vital systems will work on batteries for a while until the power comes back. Pantographs don't have to be lowered because they will hold on their maximum height and will loose contact before entering the bridges.

1:41:52 Wolvega (faulty signal)
Just before Wolvega there's a signal on the left sight that does not show any light anymore. No problem for the driver if he would see that while driving on that track. In that case he would need to make sure he can come to a full stop before the next one. But as a driver I must report the faulty signal to the train dispatcher so it can get fixed later today.
