A comparison of two Fujinon 150mm lenses, similarly-named but differently-designed Fujinon W 150mm f5.6 lens and Fujinon W 150mm f6.3 lens: yes they differ only in maximum aftercare of f5.6 and f6.3.

The f5.6 lens uses a "plasmat" design which is one of most successful lens designs and is used for the majority of high quality modern large format lenses. Plasmat lenses consist of six elements configured into four, five or six groups depending on specific design. The lens the plasmat replaced was the "tessar" a four elements in 3 group design which, when invented in the early 1900s, was the first lens to combine high image quality, fast speed and good image coverage while using a modest four elements. The tessar design is still used today in what are now considered "budget" high quality lenses.

Fujinon's range of tessar lenses are usually designated "Fujinar", "Fujinon L" or "Fujinon S", but for some reason they named this "W" the same as their plasmat lenses. When buying, check carefully and get the lens you want.
