Creating wilder forests | Our new wild areas

We’re letting nature transform more than 8,000 hectares of land in four of the nation’s forests.

Our vision is that the nation’s forests will become the most valuable places for wildlife to thrive and expand in England. So to help us achieve that, we’re establishing four new wild areas to restore fully-functioning ecosystems and support nature’s recovery. Letting nature take the lead, we’ll be taking a new approach to managing these areas by allowing natural processes more space to shape the forest landscape.
