Here are some ideas of working on your baby using shiatsu and massage. Babies love it and it is a great way of communicating with them, as well as supporting their development and helping them to relax. Babies are used to being massaged while they are in their mother's womb and touch is the first sense they develop. By experiencing loving touch from their parents, babies can also learn when touch is unsafe or inappropriate.

In this video Suzanne emphasises the importance of "tummy time" and gives suggestions of various positions for this. It can be directly on the floor, or on the parent's body. Of course it is also lovely to place your baby on their back so you can make eye contact with them. Suzanne shows some work on the abdomen - this is our physical and energetic centre and there are important points here for supporting digestion. She then shows work on the legs which helps to calm and settle babies. She shows work on the chest which can help with breathing. She also shows how to work with your baby in the side position.

Suzanne demonstrates on a doll, while parents are working with their babies. She shows a mix of more shiatsu based strokes and massage with oil. The shiatsu strokes are more holds and working with points and can be done directly on the skin or through the clothes. The massage strokes are more stroking and effleurage.
