Hyderabadi Khatti Dal is a famous Hyderabadi recipe that can be eaten along with boiled. This dal is made using Pigeon Peas and is cooked till smooth also cooked along with tamarind water to give it a slight tangy flavour and is tempered with spices which gives it a unique taste

METHOD

1.Wash and soak Pigeon peas - 250 gram in water for 30 minutes

2.Soak Tamarind - 30 gram in water for 10 minutes, then mash it and filter the water and keep aside

3.Then in a pressure cooker add
Soaked pigeon peas
Diced tomatoes - 4
Red chili powder - 2 tablespoon or as per taste
Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon
Ginger garlic paste - 2 tablespoon
Water - 3 cups
Mix it well and cook till dal turns tender

4.Mash the dal well and to it add
Tamarind water
Green chilies - 5
Few coriander and curry leaves
Salt as required
Water - 3 cups or as required
Mix it well

5.Now cook the dal for 15 minutes under medium flame and switch the flame off

6.For tempering we need
Heat clarified butter - 2 tablespoon
To it add
Thinly sliced onions - 1/2 an onion
Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
Mustard seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
Dried red chilies - 3
Curry leaves - few
Saute it well and add to the cooked dal

7.Tasty Hyderabadi Khatti dal is ready, serve it along with boiled rice.
