Описание к видео Developing 5x7 Film – Poilot 2550 Tank & NEW 5x7 Reel – Large Format – Shanghai GP3 100 B+W Analog

Almost the complete process of developing 5x7 sheet film with a Poilot 2520 tank and the new Poilot 5x7 reel. I've covered loading the film into the reel in another video.

Shanghai GP3 100 film developed in Kodak HC-110 Dilution F (1+47) for 9.5 minutes at 20.5C.

The tanks and reels are made by Poilot in China and are identical in design (and quality) to those made by JOBO. (There are a couple of Chinese companies making copies of JOBO tanks, I guess JOBO's patent has expired. I only have experience with Poilot.) The old Poilot reels were similar to those sold by CatLabs (and others) but these new reels seem to be completely of their own design and are superb. They are available for 4x5, 5x7 and 8x10.

The old reels were designed to be modular so they could reuse parts across formats from 4x5 to 5x7 and I think that this compromised them somewhat. With these new reels, each spiral end piece, core and retaining clip is specifically designed for the format resulting in reels that are easier to load and hold the film in position more securely.

The reel spiral end pieces are conical like those in the JOBO 2509N reel so the new Poilot 4x5 reel can be used in 2520 tanks which have a similar conical bottom (the old flat-bottomed reel would not fit in the 2520 tank).

The new 5x7 reel holds three sheets compared to the old reels that held six, but I always had trouble loading the old reel and the film separating clip tended to leave under-developed areas on the end of the sheet. The new 5x7 reel design is easier to load and gives good even development. That's worth the reduction is sheet capacity.

I've ordered a new Poilot 8x10 reel and will review that when it arrives in a couple of weeks. Film developing equipment is not cheap, particularly GOOD film developing equipment, but badly designed equipment causes uneven development which becomes even more expensive.
