What is a Total Knee Revision?

If a knee replacement fails for any reason a second knee operation may be needed. This second knee replacement surgery is called a revision.

A knee replacement may need to be revised for infection, loosening, fracture or other reason.

Revision surgery is a big deal, the risks are greater than the first knee replacement surgery and the outcomes are not as good.

The implants for a revision are different than a routine knee replacement to make up for instability or to better anchor the parts to the bone.

Here I give a brief overview of total knee revision surgery. You will have to have a discussion with your surgeon as each surgery is unique to you and your problem that requires additional surgery.
