Infected Total Knee Replacement. A dreaded complication. What you need to know.

I hope no patient ever develops an infection. Most studies show around 2% of total knee replacements will get infected and the risk is higher if you have certain risk factors.

Here I will discuss many of the symptoms you may see with an infected total knee. I will review how we work up the suspected infection to prove if it is infected and what bacteria may be causing the infections.

I will go over the different treatment options that may be required such as surgery and antibiotic therapy.
