Exploring Penmaenpool Railway Station - disused station on Mawddach Trail near Barmouth & Dolgellau

Описание к видео Exploring Penmaenpool Railway Station - disused station on Mawddach Trail near Barmouth & Dolgellau

Penmaenpool Station was located on the Mawddach Estuary between Barmouth Junction and Dolgellau.

It was opened in 1865 by the Aberystwyth and Welsh Coast Railway. This line would later become part of the famous Barmouth to Ruabon route operated by the Great Western Railway

The station was split by the access road which led to Penmaenpool Toll Bridge, with the station building and engine shed to the west, and platforms and goods yard to the east of this road. It would see a century of service closing to goods in 1964, and passengers in 1965.

Today the station building survives as hotel accommodation, the signal box as an RSPB information centre and the trackbed as the Mawddach Trail footpath. There is also an old signal but I'm not sure if that is original to the station.
