Lauren Halsey: emajendat | Serpentine

'emajendat', Lauren Halsey's first solo exhibition in the UK, transforms Serpentine South into an immersive ‘Funk garden’ that offers an extension of Kensington Gardens into the galleries. Halsey archives and remixes the changing signs and symbols of her environment, gathering physical material from her neighbourhood of South Central Los Angeles, where her family has lived for generations.

In this film, Lauren Halsey, Monique McWilliams, Kenneth Blackmon, Mike Gaughan and Barrington Darius speak on the artist's maximalist installation and her work with and for the communities of South Central.

'emajendat' is on view at Serpentine South through 2 March 2025.
