This 1977 song created by the Romanian hard rock band Iris represents the group's debut on a LP, more exactly on the 1978 compilation "Pop Music Bands 3". "The Ship with Sails" along with "Lumina zilei" ("Day Light"), "Ţara adevărului" ("The Country of Truth") and "Ape curgătoare" ("Flowing Waters") are the first songs created by Iris, in 1977. "The Ship with Sails" contains a metaphorical political message. The musical structure of the song is somehow influenced by the etno-progressive style of Phoenix - the most successful group of the 70's in Romania. The original version of the song includes Ion Jecan from Cluj Napoca, a vocalist that was also a member of Compact for a short period of time. In 2002, Iris re-recorded this song, with the present line-up, that includes Cristi Minculescu on lead vocals. The 2002 version appears on "White Silk" LP. In 2007, Iris invited Vlad Miriţă to sing this song, for the 30 years anniversary album "Those Who Will Be". This split video contains the original version and the 2002 version. The first one is illustrated with old photos taken between 1977 and 1980; the second version is performed live at "Iris 25 Years" anniversary show.
