This 1993 metal ballad belonging to the Romanian hard rock band Iris is the second track of the group's fifth LP, "Iris 1993". From the musical point of view, "Iris 1993" is maybe the most aggressive album in the band's history. The early 90's was a period in which many Romanian rock bands became more aggressive in their music, because before the Revolution of December 1989 they were not allowed to sing hard rock and heavy metal and to appear with such forms of music on radio or TV. "Ice Souls" refers to the rebellious teenagers from Romania, who suddenly "wake up" in a new world, a crazy world. They can't adapt so quickly to the new society, and they can't understand it fully. More than that, this new world converts normal people into "ice souls". Nicolae Ceauşescu and his communist dictatorship were abolished and in this new democratic and dinamic society only the strong survive. The song also refers to the evanescence of life, a life that we care about, but we don't value it properly. This video contains a live performance of "Ice Souls", recorded at the 1993 edition of "Christmas Rock" Festival, where Iris performed besides Quartz, Conexiuni and Altar.
