Wild Camping Down memory lane

The suggestion was made and without thought a decision was made. We'll go for a camp tonight, and I knew just the spot. Not a massive walk, in fact only a couple of miles into the forest.
Two years ago I walked a big old circle around the New Forest in search of ancient Oak trees. One that I remember very well was the Elephant Tree with a perfect pitch along side it. The reason I didn't camp there back then was because I'd run out of water and knew I had to move on to the river another mile or so down the valley, this too was IMHO a perfect pitch with a water supply so it served me well on that occasion. Now was the time to re visit the Old Oak on the ridge and watch the Sunset as there wasn't a cloud in sight.
Making a fire in the Forest is now illegal so stealth was the order of the day along with great care. My thoughts are always on leaving a site just as you found it. Certainly no fire scar on the land. The pitch was on grass, and with two older pits already there to remind me that this is a popular spot we decided to have the fire away from the pitch just out of sight of possible Rangers and out of reach of a rouge spark on the two Snugpak tents. This camp was perfect to do some sort of review on the old Scorpion Two and my replacement the Journey Duo but my last camp for YT was just that only without the S2 so didn't go too far down that road, anyway we had some catching up to do and as always with Brothers the memories go all the way back.
