Ford Edge 3.5 Duratec Thermostat replacement and coolant flush

While using the OBDLinks MX bluetooth engine engine analyzer and the FORSCAN LITE and TORQUE PRO apps to monitor the systems on both of my 2011 Ford Edge Limited's I discovered that the 2011 Ford Edge my wife drives was running engine coolant temps around 207 degrees F. My Edge was consistently running 195-198 degrees F.

I knew I had not changed the coolant and was unsure of the past maintenance. I decided to make a simple thermostat change to see if the thermostat was the issue or was it the coolant? The results of changing the thermostat definitely made the difference in the temps as it was running running equal to my other Edge after the change.

The thermostat for the 3.5 is a 180 degree F thermostat that was a Carquest part purchased from Carquest. Please note that Carquest is now Advance Auto Parts. I guess the Carquest brand has been purchased by Advance Auto Parts.

I then took the Edge to have the entire coolant system vacuum flushed and refilled with new global coolant at Xpress Lube Plus in Davenport Iowa. This shop is great and I have been using their services for over ten years.

After the flush and new thermostat the engine is now running cool and staying within the operating temperatures equal to my other Ford Edge.
