Marvel's Spirit of Vengeance has a much more complicated history than we realize. The first mention of the name Ghost Rider were in western movies from the 1930s. And it was as a western hero that the first version of the Ghost Rider came to the comics. It's most famous, motorcycle-riding, skull-flaming version debuted in Marvel in the 1970s, and have enjoyed highs and lows in popularity as in story quality ever since.
