Head Nurse
Also called as Ward-in charge, Sr. Nurse or First level Nursing Supervisor.
As per INC Norms – one Ward Sisters / Head nurse is required for 25-30 beds or one ward (1:25 – 30 / 1 per Ward)

HN / Senior staff nurse is first level nursing supervisor who is accountable for nursing care management of a ward or a unit assigned to her\him.
She is responsible to the Nursing superintendent Gr. II for her ward management.
She takes full charge of the ward and assigns work for various categories of nursing and non nursing personnel working with her\him.
She is responsible for safety and comforts of the patients in her ward.

13. Discipline in the ward, Diet Plan, sheet, daily planning, Duty
roster etc.
14. Inventory control, Indent, In-service education etc.
15. Nursing Standards
16. Clinical Teaching, Training & Supervision
17. HELP & Assist Staff & student nurses in Direct patient care,
18. Assignments – Patient Assignment & Patient classification
19. Reports
20. Guidance and Supervision– staffs and students.
21. Evaluation– Nursing care (Nsg Audit) , Staff Appraisal and
Students evaluation
